It is with great sadness that the club records the death on Sunday 25th July 2010 of Gentleman Member Mr Alan MacLeod. The funeral will be held at the Linn Crematorium on Monday 2nd August at 11.00am.

The following are the dates of the Junior Monthly Stroke Competitions held on a Saturday.

1st May, 29th May, 3rd July, 7th August, 28th August, 2nd October and 30th October.

As you may be aware, the Equality Bill received the Royal Assent on 13th April 2010 and is now entered on the Statute Book as the Equality Act 2010.

This new Act of Parliament will apply to all golf clubs in England, Scotland and Wales.

The provisions of the Act will be introduced in stages by Statutory Instrument throughout 2010 and it is understood that the act will be fully implemented by October 2010.

However, the result of the impending General Election which could lead to a change in Government may affect the timescale, thus there is still some uncertainty as to when the provisions will be fully effective.  Nevertheles the provisions contained in the act which affect golf clubs will come in to force; it is just a question of when.

Instructions have been prepared on the Club’s behalf, and sent to Barristers Chambers in London, for Counsel’s opinion on the various complex areas of the act which will affect Golf Clubs in England, Scotland and Wales.

Golf Clubs have been advised that they should commence their preparation to manage the changes introduced by the legislation now.

To this end the Council of Management has appointed a Sub-Committee to consider the implications of the Act, and make recommendations to Council as to the parameters within which the Club can best operate.

Members will be kept fully appraised of Counsel’s opinion and the effects the Act will have on the Club.

The Council of Management is eager to encourage better use of the club’s facilities. To that end it has been agreed to relax the dress code in the General Lounge for a trial period. Until the end of the summer, smart jeans and collared shirts designed to be worn outside the slacks will be allowed.
The Council would ask members to adopt a sensible approach to this relaxation and make every effort to maintain a smart demeanour, so that a visit to the club can be pleasureable for everyone.

All comments will be reviewed by the Council or appropriate committee.

A new service for members is now available with the launch of our new competitions software application. The new package from Handicapmaster offers features previously not available to the membership. These include viewing of your recent handicap record, printing out your own handicap certificate, and internet viewing of knock-out competition draws. One of the main features is the on-line booking of competition tee times and the summary and analysis of medal results. These services can be accessed through the Members pages on the club website. Instructions on how to register for the on-line service are shown on the Home page. The new application is also a hit with the C&H team, reducing the ammount of time needed to organise and run the many competitions at the club. The minutes of the 111th Annual General meeting held in the Clubhouse on Friday 4th December 2009 are now available on the Members site.
