Club Championship - Saturday 31st July.
The final was played in testing wind and occasional heavy showers between Scott Coulter and Stuart Miller. Scott started well, but a sequence of holes won by Stuart gave him a lead of 3 up at the turn. The back nine was more evenly contested, but by lunch Stuart had extended his lead to 4 holes.
The afternoon round however saw a remarkable turn-round, Scott gradually getting back into the match, and by the 28th they were all square. Scott then made a remarkable save from the trees at the next hole and followed it with three consecutive birdies to lead by 3 up. At this point Scott had only had 8 putts in the previous 7 holes, and two of those were from off the green! Stuart was unfortunate to find a bunker from the tee at the 33rd, and Scott took advantage by playing a good approach shot, then chipping dead to win the hole, and the match by 4 and 3. |
