Course

The golf course occupies a prime location on the south side of Glasgow, being bordered between Clarkston and Whitecraigs. Originally known as Cleuch Farm, the club moved here in the 1920's from it's original home at Linn Park. The layout of the course has undergone a great deal of development and improvement since those times, and an old plan of the course in the clubhouse foyer reminds us of the scale of the changes that have taken place. Progress continues to be made with an ongoing program of green replacement, drainage and tree planting and with the introduction of all weather Huxley mats at each tee, this has resulted in a course with excellent all year round golfing facilities.

The tee view at the 5th hole. The green is reachable with 2 good shots but the rough on the right can be tricky, and the elevated green is fast and slopes back to front.
From the tee any shot right of the centre of the fairway will go down the slope. The green has bunkers on both sides and no room at the back, making the approach shot important.
The green is guarded by 2 tall trees and deep front bunkers, and with the burn also crossing the front, you can't afford to be short.
A very picturesque hole rebuilt in 2004 and named after a former Captain. Lots of hazards to stay clear of and can be more difficult than it looks, especially if it's windy.
There is a tree lined fairway on the left and a hedge bordering out of bounds on the right. You can't see the burn on approach and the green is flat and has a good pace.
This is a difficult par 4 for the average golfer. Trouble comes in the shape of out of bounds on the right, then slight dogleg also right and an elevated green guarded by bunkers both sides.
Out of bounds all the way down the right, with hardly any margin for error. A burn crosses in front of the green which has two bunkers and is long with a left to right slope.
A blind tee shot over the marker will put you in good shape for a short iron into the flat green. Beware of the large rear bunker and yet another burn crossing in front.
A tough uphill shot has to carry all the way, and with bunkers both sides and a fast sloping green, it's not an easy par.
There is a plantation on the right and more trees on the left. Hitting your tee ball over the marker post leaves an easy shot into the flat green, which has bunkers on the right.
View from the fairway into the green. A ditch and plantation can cause some trouble on the right, but a makeable par 4. Watch for the front bunkers and be aware the green rolls in all directions so there are not many straight putts.
View front the back of the green. If your tee shot goes left you'll have a real tester to the elevated green. An overhit shot may find the bunker at the rear. If all else fails, admire the views to the North West.
A long driving hole with the ridge across the fairway leaving 190yds into the green. The bunkers at both sides of the green can cause problems and the long green is not easy to read, especially if the pin is at the back.
A good drive gets you over the gulley but watch out for the 2 fairway bunkers. Trees on both sides of the fairway means your second shot needs to be straight, leaving a short iron in to a long flat green. Home at last!

The course which is a par 69 from the Gents tees will test all levels of amateur golfers.With a total of 6 par 3's on the course there are plenty of opportunities to record a good score. However in order to score well at Cathcart Castle you have got to be accurate and manage your game. Several of the holes on the front 9 are protected by the 2 winding burns which cross the fairways, and most holes are guarded by bunkers. The back 9 starts with a long par 4 which has out of bounds on the right for this hole and the next 7 holes The many mature birch and pine trees lining the fairways are currently being enhanced by a new tree planting program which is already well in evidence.

Located on undulating parkland, the course offers a picturesque outlook - from just about anywhere on the course there are superb views out to the North and West. Ben Lomond and Ben More mountain peaks are clearly visible, and the Campsie Hills can be seen with the City of Glasgow in the foreground. In 1995 the club celebrated its Centenary Year.
